General Field Trip Information

What we offer

The Lancaster Science Factory is a hands-on, interactive technology and science center.  The Lancaster Science Factory offers 40 interactive exhibits and science experiments to inspire curiousity, creativity, and learning.  In addition to the exhibit floor, we also have a large classroom (which you are welcome to use for teacher guided instructions) and a demonstration room.  Beginning March 1, 2008, the Lancaster Science Factory will be ready for your class to participate in a self directed tour.*  Once your trip is confirmed, you will also get an orientation packet that will have a brief scavenger hunt activity along with a map of the Lancaster Science Factory.

Location
    454 New Holland Avenue, Lancaster PA 17602 (In the old Kerr Glass Factory Building)

    To get to the Lancaster Science Factory, take Rt. 30 to the new Holland Ave. exit heading south toward Lancaster city. The Lancaster Science Factory is approximately 2 miles from Rt. 30 on the left side of the street. Buses should turn left into the main entrance of Urban Place and unload passengers at Science Factory's main entrance. All other vehicles should plan to park across the street from the Factory and use the crosswalk provided.

Field Trip Hours
    Tuesday through Fridays from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. during the school year (September - June) and Monday through Friday from 10AM to 3PM during the summer (July - August). No groups can be scheduled on weekends or holidays.  


Visit Duration

Each Field Trip will be scheduled for two hours. Please indicate the two hour time period of your choice on the reservation form. We will do our best to accommodate the time period you choose. Depending on availability, we may have to work with you to schedule a different time period.



Scheduling Your Visit

    We limit the number of field trip visitors so that everyone is afforded an opportunity to explore the exhibits without feeling rushed. Visits can be scheduled throughout the school year and reservations must be made one week in advance and reservations are based on availability. Please note that spring field trips are the most popular time and reservations fill up quickly. To schedule a reservation please click on the link below for a printable form. After filling out the form, please mail to the address at the bottom of the page. Once we receive your request, we will contact you by phone or email and follow up with a confirmation letter that will have more detail about your class visit. Teachers are always VIPS's at the Science Factory!
    Teachers (K-12) are always welcome free of charge. Simply show your faculty ID to the Admissions Desk Receptionist at the front door. come as often as you want to help enhance your class visit.


Chaperones, Teachers
    Teachers and chaperones are responsible for the behavior of students. We at the Lancaster Science Factory like to encourage adult participation as much as possible. To make your trip most enjoyable for everyone, we recommend a chaperone ratio of one adult for every four students (ages 8 and under) and 1:6 for students age 9 and up. Chaperones will be admitted free of charge at a ratio of 1:4 for all age groups.


Field Trip Rates
    The Lancaster Science Factory looks forward to welcoming your school group and is pleased to offer discounted admission rates to schools for field trips of 10 or more students. For groups smaller than 10, regular admission rates apply. For field trips, the student admission price is $4.50 (regular student admission is $5.00). Field Trip Chaperones will be admitted free of charge at a ratio of 1:4 for all age groups. Any additional chaperones will be charged full price. Teachers are admitted free at all time with faculty ID. Please not that all group members will need to be present at the beginning of your visit and will be required to listen to the welcome message prior to going onto the exhibit floor. Please note that individual Lancaster Science Factory membership benefits are not transferable during field trips. Museum members must also pay the field trip rates. Coupons for free admission also do not apply to field trip visits.
