Volunteering

The success of the Lancaster Science Factory depends largely on our volunteers. Volunteers help with a wide range of activities. While specific needs will vary throughout the year, here are some of the ongoing volunteer positions:

Exhibit Volunteers:
  • Exhibit installation volunteers help install new exhibits coming into the Science Factory.
  • Design and research volunteers are involved with initial planning and research for new exhibits.
  • Production and repairs volunteers work with Science Center staff in building, painting, maintaining and fixing exhibits.
  • Special event volunteers help plan and source materials for special events. For example, a bridge building contest.

Science Factory Operations:
  • Admissions Desk/Gift Shop volunteers handle visitor admissions and/or gift shop sales.
  • Office Volunteers work with Science center staff behind the scenes on a variety of administrative tasks, depending on skills and interests.
Program Volunteers:
  • Explainers interact with visitors and demonstrate exhibits. An ability to interact comfortably with visitors (especially with school children) and work independently is essential.
  • Demonstrator volunteers plan and present demonstrations and small group activities in an area of science which is of particular interest to the demonstrator
  • Event coordinators help with planning, set-up and visitor activities for special events.

Fundraising Volunteers
  • Annual Campaign volunteers handle a wide range of jobs for this annual event, including coordination and administration of campaign materials and data management.
